Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR SEPTIC SYSTEM

No, Conventional septic systems do not require electricity to function. They rely on natural processes to break down the waste.

It is not recommended to inspect your septic system yourself as there can be dangerous gases and bacteria present. It is best to hire a licenced professional for inspections and maintenance.

If your septic system fails, it can cause sewage backups and environmental contamination. It is important to address any issues as soon as possible to prevent further damage and potential health hazards.

If water—or smelly black liquid—gurgles up into your drains, it could indicate an overloaded tank or a blocked distribution line between your house and the septic tank

Septic tank failure can cause slow drains in sinks, bathtubs, and showers

Unusual sounds in your plumbing system may signal septic issues

While dying grass isn’t necessarily bad, lush green grass directly above the tank suggests a significant issue. Pools of water or dampness around these areas  could be due to a leak of effluent, aka liquid wastewater, before it hits the drain field. Once it escapes your septic tank, it basically acts as fertilizer because it contains ammonium nitrate.

Occasionally, a high water table or excessive rainfall can saturate the drain field and prevent the septic tank from draining properly
